The Prayer of a Patriot
(by Adrian Rogers, Love Worth Finding)

"Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause Thine anger toward us to cease. Wilt Thou be angry with us for ever? Wilt Thou draw out Thine anger to all generations? Wilt Thou not revive us again: that Thy people may rejoice in Thee?" ~~ Psalm 85:4-6

A Plea for Revival

In Psalm 85, we read the prayer of a true patriot. He watched his nation go from disobedience to degradation to dissolution. And because he loves his land, he's praying for revival.

America, too, is on a collision course with God's judgment, and I am greatly alarmed! As in that day, today the prayer of a patriot needs to be, "Wilt Thou not revive us again ...?"

Now to revive means to bring back to a former state. Never has a nation had a better start than America. God has blessed and favored America. But America needs a spiritual revival - an earth-shaking, mountain-moving, devil-defying, sin-killing, soul-saving revival.

The Possibility of Revival

Some have given up and say it's too late for America. I refuse to believe that because of the word "Thou." "Wilt Thou not revive us again ....?" If it depended upon us, indeed, it would be too late. But as long as there is God, there is hope for America and for revival.

I've studied the history of revival and have found that God in His mercy has sent revival in darkest of times. Think of some of the revivals in history.

On Mount Carmel Elijah was God's only prophet. There was political, moral, and religious corruption. But there was one man who knew God. Elijah prayed, "... Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that Thou art the LORD God, and that Thou hast turned their heart back again." (1 Kings 18:37) Verse thirty-eight says, "Then the fire of the LORD fell...." God sent a mighty spiritual awakening. If God could do that on Mount Carmel, He can do it in America.

What a revival it was that took place on the day of Pentecost (see Acts 2)! Never was there a more unlikely place for revival. Jerusalem was gospel-hardened. They'd heard the preaching of the prophets and seen the ministry of Jesus Christ, yet they had rejected them. But on the day of Pentecost, revival came. If God could send revival to Jerusalem, He can send revival to us in this day and age.

Think about the Dark Ages. The Word of God was virtually unknown. Few people had ever seen a Bible. Dark ages they truly were; but God raised up Martin Luther, Calvin, and others. And what we call the Protestant Reformation was probably one of the greatest revivals this world has ever known, when millions came to Jesus Christ by faith. Now, if God could do that in the Dark Ages, He can still do it today.

There was a great revival in Wales early in the twentieth century. Revival came, one man said, "like an unexpected tornado." So great was the power of God hovering over that land, that fishermen coming ashore in their boats would fall under conviction as they drew near to land. Multitudes were swept into the kingdom of God. Jail doors were left unlocked because there were no prisoners. Old debts were paid. Alcoholics were made sober. Criminals were reformed. Wales was changed and set aglow for Jesus Christ. What will God have to do to send that kind of revival to America today?

The Program for Revival

The problem is not in Washington. It's not in the schools. The problem lies with God's people. We, like the patriot in Psalms, must pray, "...Revive us again." We say, "If only Hollywood would... If only Washington would.... If only education would... If only the liquor industry would...." But God says, "If My people..." First Chronicles 7:14 says, "If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

God wants His people to humble themselves and turn back to Him. Our sins have hidden His face. We must turn from that which is wicked and sinful. All-night prayer meetings are to no avail unless we repent.

The call of the hour is for revival. The only thing that can save America is revival. And the only people who can start revival are God's people. It's time that we say it and mean it, pray it and feel it: "God bless America. Revive us again."

   FEBRUARY 12, 2009
I know this may seem like a small thing to some people but it was big to me.
I've been kind of down lately and felt pretty distant from God.  Yeah I know, who moved?
Well just to show you how good my God is, I went to change a heating element in our electric range oven.  I made sure the switch to the oven was off and went to unplug the old element and the side of the wire where it plugs in touched the side wall of the oven and a big spark flew and burned the wire into, while I was holding the bare element.
Here's the "praise the Lord," God must have had his angel protecting me because I could have been electrocuted, then and there, but I never felt a thing.
And like I said it burned the wire into and what was left of it went back up inside the wall of the oven.
Yes I unplugged the stove from the outlet now.
Andl I took the back wall off of the stove to try to get to it but could not figure out how to get to the little wire.  I got on the internet and researched fix-it sites that had the same problem as I did.  All I found was that I could have been killed.  Didn't say how to fix it.
I was thinking about calling my nephew when he takes his lunch break to see if he had an ideas when I decided to pray about it and ask God to help me.
I used to do that alot when I was working full time and God did help me alot.  But since I've been retired I quit relying on God.  Plus I haven't even been praying very much.  Sorry to say my prayer life has been zip.
So I asked God to please help me fix this because I had just spent over $55 on this new element and didn't want to have to spend anymore money on this stove, couldn't really afford to and sure couldn't afford to buy a new stove if I couldn't fix this one.
Well I prayed and sat down in front of that oven and pretty soon God showed me what was wrong and better yet showed me how to fix it without costing anything.  Now you can believe it or not.
I KNOW He helped me and I thanked God big time.  AMEN!

MY PRAYER

Psalm 51

1Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

Just think, there will be very few politicians in Heaven according to this Bible verse (Hey the Bible said it, not me).   Read it for yourself.

Revelation 21:8 (King James Version)

8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
